Wednesday, January 16, 2008 Avril Lavigne Clears Up Copyright Lawsuit
Out in a celebratory mood, Avril Lavigne and husband Deryck Whibley headed out to the celeb-popualr Koi restaurant in West Hollywood last night. From there, the Sk8r Boi singer, who just received some good news, kept things going with a trip to Villa lounge in the same area.
As for the good news, Miss Lavigne has just been “exonerated by two songwriters who had accused her of plagiarism. The Sk8er Boi singer escaped trial as songwriters Tony Dunbar and James Gangwer reached a confidential settlement with the singer regarding her song Girlfriend.”
As a result, Dunbar and Gangwer are now retracting their statements, telling press: “We are satisfied that any similarities between the two songs resulted from Avril and Luke’s use of certain common and widely used lyrics. We therefore completely exonerate Avril and Luke from any wrongdoing of any kind in connection with the claims made by us in our lawsuit.”
