Saturday, November 03, 2007 Ashley Judd: AIDS Activist
Ashley Judd is proving that she’s more than just a pretty face. Besides being a prolific actress, on both the screen and stage, she’s making a difference as the “global ambassador” for YouthAIDS.
More than twelve million people under 25 years of age have HIV, with over half of all new infections occurring within the 15-24 year-old age bracket. And Judd isn’t having it.
She told press, “There is an extraordinary, compelling, urgent problem.” And Ashley has teamed up with YouthAIDS founder Kate Roberts to work towards “a world free of HIV.” How are they doing it? Advertising has proved to be a very effective means of reaching young people with their message. Judd said of Roberts, “Advertising is hip, slick and cool and Kate understands that. Now she devotes all of that energy into making positive lifestyle choices ... hip, slick and cool.”
Along with her philanthropic work, Ashley is filming a new movie, “Helen.” She was recently spotted at the Vancouver airport headed for the Big Apple. Busy girl!
