Amy Winehouse: Wanted in Norway
If it weren’t for celebrities, how would the world’s legal systems stay busy? Case in point: Amy Winehouse.
She was arrested in London just over a week ago, and now she’s being summoned by a Norwegian court in regards to a marijuana charge she acquired this past October.
According to the authorities in Norway, the “Rehab” singer must appear in person if she hopes to get the charge dropped from her record (a necessary step in getting her international traveling privileges restored).
Liv Karlsen, a Bergen police spokesperson told press, “I can confirm that she must appear in court. If one appeals a conviction, it’s the rule that one has to appear in person, so this is not surprising.”
The dispute is over whether or not Amy and husband Blake Fielder-Civil knew what they were doing when they signed papers and agreed to pay a fine back on October 18th when they were arrested.
The singer’s lawyers claim that she didn’t know that her actions were considered a plea of guilty in the Norwegian court system. But police say she knew exactly what she was doing, as she was aided by a translator.
