In a recent news release by police officials, Oscar-nominated actor Ryan O'Neal was arrested for investigation of assaulting his adult son, while at home in Malibu over the weekend.
It has been reported by an abc news affiliate that deputies and paramedics were called to O'Neal's Malibu residence at 12:30 a.m. Saturday "regarding a battery that had occurred," said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. John Benedict.
"Deputies determined ... Griffin O'Neal, his son, had been assaulted by his father," Benedict said.
Police booked O'Neal on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. He was released within hours after posting $50,000 bail.
According to cbs records, Griffin O’Neal is the son of Ryan and Joanna Moore and brother to Tatum O'Neal. In 1986, he was convicted of reckless boating in an accident that killed Gian-Carlo Coppola, son of director Francis Ford Coppola.
Sheriff's deputies have visited the O'Neal house before. Ryan knocked out two of Griffin's teeth during a clash in 1983, though no charges were filed, the Times reported.
Griffin acted as a child and has a history of substance abuse.
Ryan O'Neal also has adult sons from his relationships with actresses Farrah Fawcett and Leigh Taylor-Young.
And just so they know, family therapy is still being offered in Caifornia!
