I find this whole idea of Paris turning to religion as being a positive. The worst that could happen is a girl who idolizes her will try to emulate her and get involved with religion and spirituality. The idea that Paris is using it to get out of her sentence is not of the greatest moral standards - but sometimes a desirable outcome is more important than the debacle that caused it.
