I am heading to Sundance to find a celebrity to help push issues of social and political importance. I believe that while a movie may not change the world, movies do have the capacity to expand the public discourse on crucial topics.
“Blue Genes” is based on a true story about the trials and tribulations of a serial entrepreneur (myself) who began as a pioneer in the stone wash denim industry and serendipitously discovered a Russian fungus capable of metabolizing enzymes that can be used to create ethanol.
Of course, at the time of this discovery—and perhaps even now—the world was not ready to wean itself from its oil addiction. In this screenplay, the forces of opposition are personified in oil oligarchs and their political lackeys, who will stop at nothing to prevent this technology from reaching the public.
