Writers Strike Bombs Golden Globes

At this year’s Golden Globe Awards, there won’t be any actors to present or accept the awards. How weird!

The show, set to take place January 13th, will be devoid of any Screen Actors Guild members, meaning that all the nominees and most audience members will be staying home.

The Return of the Late Shows

It’s been an interesting season for television shows with the writers’ strike and all. Late night comedians’ shows have taken a serious hit, given the fact that they usually film their episode earlier in the day that it airs. But Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel all returned to the airwaves yesterday despite the political climate of Hollywood.

And the reviews are mixed. Reportedly Jay Leno wrote his own monologue, which may or may not be in violation of the strike, given that he’s a member of the writers’ guild. “We are not using outside guys. We are following the guild thing ... we can write for ourselves.”

Carrie Underwood’s Chace-less New Years

There was no big New Year’s Eve kiss for Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford this year, as the American Idol winner and Gossip Girl star were busy attending separate functions on the holiday.

Looking quite elegant, Carrie was spotted in Times Square, there for a performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2008.

Ashlee Simpson Talks Career Revival

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything from Ashlee Simpson. Her “I Am Me’ album failed to live up to the expectations set forth by her debut “Autobiography” and after the whole Saturday Night Live incident, she’s been a bit gunshy.

But the younger Simpson sister is set to take over the pop music world once again, and she began inching her way back into the limelight earlier this week with an appearance on MTV’s Total Request Live.

Walker comments on: Reese Witherspoon Fights Domestic Violence in the UK

Good for her. I feel like domestic violence is the red-headed step-child of violence issues. It’s easy to speak out against government-induced famine, or wars that kill civilians, or rape. But domestic violence is a very sensitive issue because it is so common! I’m glad Reese is getting people talking.

Another voice brave enough to speak on domestic violence is that of Marala Scott, author of the book, “In Our House: Perception vs. Reality.” She is specifically interested in the “Indicators of an Abuser,” a tool she developed to help people recognize patterns in others (or in themselves) that might signify abusive tendencies in the future. Really fascinating stuff, that - you can see them here.

Keep up the good work, Reese!
