Hugh Grant had quite the interesting evening at the Dutch premiere of his new movie, ‘Music and Lyrics’. It has, quite amusingly, been reported that a woman handcuffed herself to the actor, causing quite the stir. Grant was left stunned when Cielke Sijben, a journalist working for Dutch TV network 101 TV, lunged forward as he walked the red carpet at the Amsterdam Pathe and clamped a metal handcuff on his wrist, attaching herself to him, reports Entertainmentwise. posted by at 12:38 PM | (0) comments |

At the star-studded Academy Awards on Sunday, Martin Scorsese’s mob epic “The Departed” won best picture, earning the filmmaker the directing prize that had eluded him throughout his illustrious career. “Could you double-check the envelope?” said Scorsese, who had been referred to as the greatest living American filmmaker without an Oscar. He also had never delivered a best-picture winner before, despite crafting such modern masterpieces as “Raging Bull” and “Goodfellas.” Scorsese received his Oscar from three contemporaries and friends, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas. “So many people over the years have been wishing this for me,” Scorsese said. posted by at 11:28 AM | (0) comments |
permalink Best Actor Oscar For Forest Whitaker
Forest Whitaker won the Oscar for best actor Sunday for portraying former Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the movie ‘The Last King of Scotland.’ Whitaker, born in Longview, Texas in 1961 and raised in East Los Angeles, gained 50 pounds to play Amin and dazzled critics with his portrayal of the mercurial, brutal dictator, won the Oscar on his first-ever nomination.
The emotionally charged Whitaker took several long breaths, his Oscar statue in hand, before pronouncing himself “overwhelmed” by the award and pulling out a prepared speech.

I feel like domestic violence is the red-headed step-child of violence issues. It’s easy to speak out against government-induced famine, or wars that kill civilians, or rape. But domestic violence is a very sensitive issue because it is so common! I’m glad Reese is getting people talking. Another voice brave enough to speak on domestic violence is that of Marala Scott, author of the book, “In Our House: Perception vs. Reality.” She is specifically interested in the “Indicators of an Abuser,” a tool she developed to help people recognize patterns in others (or in themselves) that might signify abusive tendencies in the future. Really fascinating stuff, that - you can see them here. Keep up the good work, Reese!
