Britney Spears CANCELS tour - knee injury to blame

It looks like that bum knee got her out of the Black Onyx Tour that she was struggling to keep up with.. rumor had it that she was fed up and tired.. and just wanted to go home. Well Britney it looks like dreams do come true - even if it’s in a not so pleasant way.......

After last week’s injury resulting from a fall on the set of her video shoot for “Outrageous” in Queens, NY, Britney Spears underwent arthroscopic knee surgery at a New York hospital. The surgery was necessary to repair severe damage caused to the singer’s leg by the incident.

Ms. Spears will be immobile for 6 weeks, with her knee in a hard brace. This will be followed by a minimum of 8-12 weeks of rehabilitation.

The second U.S. leg of The Onyx Hotel Tour which was scheduled to begin on June 22nd in Hartford, CT and end in Bakersfield, CA on August 15th is cancelled.

A whole new group of gals become pop folklore after being written into the lyrics of a Madonna classic.

The queen of pop has rewritten Vogue!

The spoken verse of the 1990 smash hit, in which Madonna harks back to the glamour days of Hollywood, originally begins with the line “Greta Garbo and Monroe.. Dietrich and DiMaggio”.

But that’s all been changed for her latest world tour....

Yes, Britney Spears. You read that correctly. Her piece on Sept. 11 in the April 12 edition is a must-read.

Marking its 30th anniversary, People asked some of America’s biggest celebrities to tell us about the moments that defined who they are today.

When I first saw that Britney Spears was offering her thoughts on 9/11, I groaned. Surely, I thought, Spears would take a swipe or two at the Bush administration and government officials, or make some self-righteous political point. Most celebrities do.

Fortunately, People was no soapbox for the sassy singer. Instead, here’s what Ms. Spears supplied:

“One of the most significant things that’s happened in the last 30 years was the tragedy of Sept. 11. I was on my way overseas on that sad day and I couldn’t get back to the U.S.A. right away, and I was very worried about my brother who was in New York. During this time when the whole world was grieving, I just wanted to go home and be with my family and appreciate life even more.”

It’s a simple statement, devoid of political motivation, extraneous themes or other typical celebrity silliness. Any American could have said it. And most probably agree with her.

A reality series about Britney Spears?

Representatives for the pop princess are shopping a reality series featuring backstage footage of her life on tour, according to sources.

Being pitched with the pun-style title “OnTourage,” the series would follow the lives of Spears and her fellow dancers on the upcoming European leg of the Onyx Hotel Tour, her steamy concert series.

“OnTourage” is being described as a cross between MTV’s “The Real World” and 1991’s “Madonna: Truth or Dare.” Spears would narrate and even wield a digital camera to chronicle her adventures with her dancers, bodyguards and managers from the tour bus to the stage.

The six-week shoot would produce six episodes that Spears’ team would hope to have on the air as early as the summer, presumably providing a boon to the already healthy ticket revenue she is generating.

No word on whether any particular network is close to a deal, but the front-running network will have to act fast: Spears’ European tour kicks off in London on April 27.

Another potential hitch: The budget is projected to run north of $1 million per episode, which is expensive by unscripted standards.

Reps for Spears, who would serve as an executive producer, declined comment late Monday.

Britney Spears Onyx Hotel Tour: Definitely not a kid friendly show!

Britney Spears bought her raunchy show to Toronto on Saturday for the first Canadian date of her tour, complete with scenes of simulated sex that sent some parents and their young children home early while a mostly female audience of teens and 20-somethings hooted and hollered for more.

“Disgusting,” was the one-word review from nine-year-old Carly Woodcox. “I think she should never do that again,” said the Peterborough, Ont., resident, reacting to the American superstar’s performance during Touch of My Hand.

Emerging from under a white robe in the later part of the show to reveal a near-transparent sequin-covered bodysuit, Spears thrashed about in a bathtub while dancers simulated sex acts in various rooms of the hotel-themed backdrop.

Silhouettes of couples and threesomes could be seen as a fit young male dancer rubbed a red silk pillow about his nether-regions in the foreground.

The soft-core inspired choreography continued into the next song, Breathe on Me, in which the 22-year-old singer rolled about on a bed in her bra and panties under the watchful gaze of the same male dancer. The two ended up in a full, open mouthed kiss displayed on three giant video screens.

“That would be something for adult viewing only,” said Woodcox’s aunt, Judy Doughty, who added she was embarrassed for having brought her niece to the show and said they would talk about it on the drive home.

“A little too much for this age group,” said Lucy Triagiai, who stood up to escort home three young girls, ages five through 11, moments after the simulated sex acts began. “I don’t think it was necessary.”

But the majority of the audience stayed and gave Spears a standing ovation at the end of it all. The singer, who cancelled three shows in as many weeks after injuring her knee during a dance routine last month, showed no signs of slowing down Saturday.

The American music superstar wriggled her toned and tanned body to such hits as Toxic and I’m A Slave 4 U, rarely venturing too far back into her five-year career that’s seen her transform from schoolgirl cutie to provocative temptress.

While the Lolita-esque video for her 1999 debut single Baby One More Time was delivered in the guise of schoolgirl innocence - after all it’s not Britney’s fault if men find kilts attractive - Saturday’s show left no doubt that former Mickey Mouse Club regular is all grown up.

Taking a number of cues from her mentor Madonna, who actually ran into trouble with Toronto police in 1990 when her Blonde Ambition tour came to town complete with scenes of simulated self-pleasure and general naughtiness, Spears bared a lot more than her soul through her music.

Through numerous costumes changes there was plenty of exposed skin on display by Spears and the male and female dancers who accompanied her on stage.

Not one to leave any suggestive stone unturned, Spears also made reference to her Las Vegas quickie wedding on Jan. 3 that ended in an annulment some 55 hours later.

“I see a lot of cute fellas,” she said in a scripted moment that’s been repeated many times during the tour. “Are you feeling lucky? Who knows, I might marry you.”

If the object of those saucy antics was to once and for all put to bed a virginal image so carefully cultivated early in her career, Spears has succeeded. Even Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, 77, is impressed. He told Us Weekly magazine earlier this year that not only would he like Spears to pose naked in his magazine, but that he’d gladly take her on as one of his many girlfriends. [via Canadian Press]
