While Matilda appears to be rebounding with the same resilience found in toddlers, Michelle has been devastated and canceled numerous public appearances as she tries to regain strength.

Following the devastating loss of Heath Ledger, Michelle Williams and her daughter (by Ledger) Matilda have been spotted back in New York City.

As previously reported by the Gossip Girls, work on Williams’ new film “Mammoth” has continued despite the unfortunate events as of late.

It’s been a rocky couple of weeks for Michelle Williams, as her life was thrown into a whirlwind with the death of her ex-fiance, and the father of her daughter, Heath Ledger.

And the “Dawson’s Creek” actress was finally able to think about going back to work today.  She was reportedly seen in New York City prepping for filming.

Michelle Williams Pays Respect to Heath Ledger

After Heath Ledger’s funeral ended, the day of remembrance was just getting underway - as mourners including Michelle Williams all “took a plunge into the ocean as the sun began to set.”

According to People magazine reports, “At least 50 people attending the wake ran onto the beach and many began to take off their clothes. While some women took the plunge in their black dresses, other men and women stripped down to just their underwear and jumped into the ocean.”

It’s been a tough couple of days for Michelle Williams.  After hearing about her ex-fiancé Heath Ledger’s death on Tuesday, she rushed back to the US, arriving in New York City yesterday.

The “Dawson’s Creek” star was on location in Sweden with her (and Heath’s) daughter Matilda when she was notified of the tragedy.  She quickly hopped a plane to return to her Brooklyn home last night.
