Caught off guard by the news that co-host Paula Abdul opted to leave “American Idol,” Ryan Seacrest offered his thoughts on the decision.

“About to go to sleep when I started seeing my blackberry blow up,” Seacrest tweeted. “I have read what u have read and I am shocked and saddened about Paula.”

There has been widespread speculation as to her future on “American Idol,” and yesterday (August 4) Paula Abdul officially announced her departure from the show.

The 47-year-old entertainer tweeted, “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol.  I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon.”

Miss Abdul has been getting slammed for rumors that she is a drug addict since Cowell joked that she had a penchant for painkillers. Abdul is not willing to take any more of it.

Speaking about her troubling battle with pain medication, Paula Abdul opened up about her past struggles in an interview with Ladies Home Journal.

Talking about how she did her best to hide her addiction, Abdul tells, “I couldn’t cancel my tour. I didn’t want anyone to count me out. I tried to keep everything hush-hush. I’m an old school professional. Never let them see you sweat.”

With the new season of “American Idol” underway, audiences are getting to know new judge Kara DioGuardi.  And at last night’s FOX TV Winter All-Star Party last night, she was spotted getting along just fine with her new colleague Paula Abdul.

As for the fracas between DioGuardi and “Bikini Girl” Katrina Darrell on the premiere episode (they got into a heated spat after Darrell sang Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love and Kara re-sang it to show her how it should’ve been done) , Kara told Ryan Seacrest’s radio show that she has no regrets.
