Known for her disdain towards Hollywood’s apparent obsession with being skinny, British actress Kate Winslet has won a public apology and undisclosed libel damages from a magazine over a false report claiming that she visited a diet doctor.
Winslet’s lawyer, Rachel Atkins, told the High Court in London on Friday that the article in Grazia magazine was incorrect in reporting that Winslet discussed weight-related treatments at the Chinese Healing Institute in California.
In an unsurprising move, Kate Winslet is planning to take legal action against a tabloid magazine over an article about her weight.
Grazia printed a story alleging that the Oscar-nominated actress was visiting a ‘diet doctor’. Seeing the Winslet has often spoken out against skinny stars and size zero models, describing the trend as “unbelievably disturbing”, she felt an obligation to respond to the claims.
The British star, who has been “lauded for her decision to remain one of the curvier A-listers,” spoke out about the issue on the red carpet at the BAFTAs.
Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet attended the New York City premiere of their new flick, The Holiday, Wednesday night. A movie that I actually want to see. I wish it started this weekend, but alas I must wait until December 8th.
The movie also stars Jude Law and Jack Black - interesting choice of male supporting characters if you ask me.. not sure I would have picked Jack for this part… but hey, who the heck am I to judge.
You can see the trailer for The Holiday below:
“Iris is in love with a man who is about to marry another woman. Across the globe, Amanda realizes the man she lives with has been unfaithful. Two women who have never met and live 6000 miles apart, find themselves in the exact same place. They meet online at a home exchange website and impulsively switch homes for the holiday. Iris moves into Amanda’s L.A. house in sunny California as Amanda arrives in the snow covered English countryside. Shortly after arriving at their destinations, both women find the last thing either wants or expects: a new romance. Amanda is charmed by Iris’ handsome brother Graham and Iris, with inspiration provided by legendary screenwriter Arthur, mends her heart when she meets film composer Miles.”
