Friday, September 14, 2007 Shakira Favors Education Over Marriage
Once in awhile a girl comes along who can not only put out #1 records, but also excel in college academia. And Shakira’s university pursuits are just one more way that she’s a notch higher than her peers. She’s spent the entire summer studying the History of Western Civilization, and the Hips Don’t Lie singer couldn’t be happier. And according to a source, she’s not envious of all the red carpet events she’s been missing. posted by Kayla at 02:13 PM | (0) comments |

When you’re rich and famous, everyone is trying to get a piece of you. That’s why Shakira’s advisors are pushing her to sign a prenuptial agreement before she marries Antonio de la Rua. The Colombian singer has agreed to a prenup before she marries Antonio this September in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. They’ve been engaged for six years, and now they’re moving forward. posted by at 11:00 AM | (1) comments |

As reported previously by the Gossip Girls, the series of Live Earth concerts across seven continents got started off with a bang yesterday (July 7). Just 24 hours later, the global party has come to an end - but the hope is that the event’s message will live on for quite some time to come. Live Earth was organized by former Vice President Al Gore with the goal of raising awareness about global warming. With over 100 musical acts joining in on the cause, the entertainers played to the crowds - with many offering up messages to the over 2 billion people expected to experience the shows through television, radio and the Internet. posted by at 10:41 AM | (1) comments |
permalink Saturday, July 07, 2007 Shakira and Rihanna Help Kick Off Live Earth
The 2007 version of Live Earth concerts kicked off on Saturday (July 7) in an attempt to persuade governments and citizens to go green. And Rihanna and Shakira were among the acts performing in nine cities around the world. According to Reuters reports, “around 40,000 people filled the Aussie Stadium in Sydney, 10,000 turned up at the Makuhari Messe hall outside Tokyo, thousands watched at the steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai and many more braved the rain in Hamburg.” posted by at 09:21 AM | (0) comments |

I feel like domestic violence is the red-headed step-child of violence issues. It’s easy to speak out against government-induced famine, or wars that kill civilians, or rape. But domestic violence is a very sensitive issue because it is so common! I’m glad Reese is getting people talking. Another voice brave enough to speak on domestic violence is that of Marala Scott, author of the book, “In Our House: Perception vs. Reality.” She is specifically interested in the “Indicators of an Abuser,” a tool she developed to help people recognize patterns in others (or in themselves) that might signify abusive tendencies in the future. Really fascinating stuff, that - you can see them here. Keep up the good work, Reese!
