Michael Phelps: Suspended from Swimming

As the world continues to react to the Michael Phelps pot smoking scandal, it seems the USA Swimming organization is seeking to send a message to the Olympic Gold Medalist, as well as his admirers.

Yesterday, USA Swimming announced that they were suspending Michael from competition for three months, effective immediately.

Michael Phelps’s Bong Exchange

It seems the recent controversy caused by Michael Phelps’ pot smoking picture has had quite an effect on the people in his community.  In fact, Washington DC radio show Elliot in the Morning held a bong exchange outside his house this morning (February 5).

According to a report, the show had to stop people from bring their old bongs as police were waiting to arrest anyone with drug paraphernalia on them.  Instead, the morning show gave away gift certificates in lieu of the smoking gear.

Michael Phelps Emerges Post-Bong Controversy

Getting back to the pool, Michael Phelps was spotted arriving at a Baltimore swimming complex with beefed up security this afternoon (February 3).

This happens to be the first sighting of the Olympic record holder since photographs emerged of Phelps smoking a bong at a college party in a British tabloid newspaper at the weekend.

Michael Phelps Apologizes for Pot Smoking Snafu

He’s America’s golden boy, so when a photo of Olympic Gold Medal swimmer Michael Phelps smoking a marijuana pipe turned up in UK newspaper News Of the World over the weekend, everyone was pretty shocked.

In a statement released by his marketing agency, Phelps said, “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment.”
