A big football trade to report—Faith Hill is out and Carrie Underwood is in! The “American Idol” winner is taking over singing duties of the theme song for NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.”
Underwood has recorded a new version of “Waiting All Day for Sunday,” a song that’s a rewrite of Joan Jett’s 1988 rock hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” Hill sang it for six seasons.
"Obviously, we wanted to make it sound like me,” says the “Jesus Takes the Wheel” singer, “but we definitely wanted to bring a fun edge to it. I mean, people are getting ready to watch a big football game. I know I'm known for some big notes, but it was more about just bringing the energy."
The Oklahoma native’s theme will premiere during Sunday's season-opening broadcast when the New York Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys. She’s not taking sides but she admits to growing up in a home that cheered quite a bit for the Cowboys.
