Angelina Jolie’s School Building Success

Always helping out, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has opened a new primary school for girls in Tangi, Afghanistan.

The Salt actress donated $75,000 towards the school’s construction efforts - which has eight classrooms, a well and eight latrines, and will begin classes next Monday open to 800 students.

UNICEF built classrooms two years ago in the area, but parents hesitated due to cultural reasons.

One 14-year-old girl name Laila gushed about the excitement of the new school, telling, "I always had hopes and dreams of going to school and the hope to become a qualified teacher has revived in me."

Her father Ustad, a former teacher, also was ecstatic saying, "This is what we needed here and I believe there is a need for every community if we want to build the future of our country -- to build schools and get education."

Meanwhile, Jolie has been busy filming The Tourist in Venice, Italy and was not able to attend the school’s celebration.
